Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform evidence synthesis by increasing efficiency, supporting researchers with time-consuming tasks and helping to address the growing volume and complexity of research evidence. However, AI technologies can also introduce risks, including bias, lack of transparency, inaccurate or fabricated outputs and challenges to reproducibility and accountability. Responsible AI use is therefore essential to ensure that innovation strengthens, rather than undermines, the integrity and trustworthiness of evidence synthesis.
The DESTINY consortium and its partners are working to support the safe, transparent and effective use of AI in evidence synthesis. This includes investing in AI literacy upskilling and capacity strengthening in responsible AI use. This section provides access to key guidance and resources on responsible AI use in evidence synthesis. evidence synthesis practitioners, methodologists, AI developers, funders, publishers and users of evidence synthesis, can expect practical recommendations on transparency, reporting, governance, tool evaluation and accountability, alongside emerging best practices from leading evidence synthesis organisations, including DESTINY partners Cochrane and the Campbell Collaboration.
In addition, across the DESTINY consortium we are involved in training events for responsible AI use for evidence synthesists and trainers of systematic review methods.
